'Gesture’ is about the representation of identity through objects of personal possession and through gesture. It is a study of subtly different personalities as represented by external appearance. The two girls offset each other, the girl on the left with her more clipped, formal appearance, and the girl on the right with her freer, more relaxed appearance.

I am interested in general in the ability of physical things owned by people to act as carrier's of their identity or complex emotions which they might not know how to express in other ways. Painting can contexutalise these things in the world of the people who own them, thereby helping to explain their significance.
