As the title of the exhibition Stripped suggests, the work is a physical and metaphorical process of stripping, scratching, scraping and removing a layered, constructed and contrived surface. The female subject herself is literally stripped of her clothing, and whilst I physically strip away the numerous layers of paint, I symbolically strip away a history of contrived images, artificial trappings and manufactured meaning that has forged the spurious surface of the female figure.
