My work in mixed media sculpture and painting is inspired by my experience of parenting- giving birth, motherhood and children- giving expressions to the feelings evoked by these aspects of life, viewed from different perspectives. The dummy paintings take a less conceptual but playful approach to my art making. Although it’s a big drama when lost, desired or needed dummies/pacifier otherwise live a much unnoticed life. Taken out of their usual surrounding and viewed from an angel more likely that of a baby or mouse, they become objects of a new kind and interest. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the curved dummy and the structured architectural space I placed them in while painting. The dummy became almost unrecognisable as such and gained value regardless of its purpose of calming an unhappy child.
